4 Businesses You Can Run From Home
There are so many reasons to start your own business. If you’ve ever thought about taking a stab at it but didn’t think you had what it takes to compete with large corporations, then we’re here to tell you that YOU DO.
We’ve all heard stories of regular people who started their own business and managed to make a living out of it. Some have even gone on to reach celebrity statuses like Gary Vaynerchuk.
You don’t need fancy equipment or loads of cash upfront – just some creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, so dive in and try one of these four home-based business ideas today. Your bank account, confidence and pride will thank you for it!
1) Blogging
Blogging remains one of our favourite small business ideas because it’s so versatile. Whether you write about your life or specific topics that are relevant to your audiences, like family or fashion, blogging is an inexpensive way to reach an engaged audience and start making money from home.
You don’t need thousands of followers—or even hundreds—to make money from blogging; in fact, you can easily monetize with tens of thousands of readers by providing ads and affiliate sales through Google AdSense and Amazon Associates programs.
2) Become A Freelance Writer
This is another great option if you want to start a business from home. While writers can be employed by larger magazines and newspapers, freelancers have many more opportunities when it comes to small businesses you can run from home.
In fact, many freelance writers work with multiple outlets and enjoy higher pay because they offer their clients high-quality content on demand.
Some of our favourite writing gigs are as an SEO writer (great for long-form), web content writer, or an eCommerce copywriter—all of which are positions you can get without degrees or much experience under your belt!
3) Online Teaching or Tutoring
Want to help others learn but don’t know where to start? Maybe online teaching is your calling! You can actually use all of your current skills and hobbies in the online teaching business.
Teaching piano, guitar, art, yoga, and even dance lessons are some examples of skill-based home businesses that you can start with just a few clients (you can always add more as you grow).
One of our favourite things about being an instructor is how much independence it offers. Once you’re set up and ready to go, there’s nothing holding you back from taking on new students or projects—and that’s something we’d want no matter what type of small business we were running.
4) Be A YouTuber
If you’ve ever had an interest in becoming a star, then starting your own YouTube channel could be your ticket to fame. To get started, just head over to YouTube and create an account. From there, you can create videos at no cost or upload existing content if you already have some that are sitting on your hard drive collecting dust.
Some people use their channel as a way to engage with others and communicate with fans, while others use it as more of an online portfolio or demo reel (for example).
Like blogging, building subscribers is important to turn your channel into something that generates money. If you see someone watching one of your videos every day, imagine how much they’d be willing to pay for extra lessons or tips! Again, though—this isn’t easy money and takes time to build a following.
Conclusion
These are just four examples of small business ideas that you can start while working from home. But with any small business, remember that it will take a lot of effort and sacrifice before you see a monetary return.
